PRINCIPAL 2009 Among the Best: A Milestone in the Excellence of Portuguese Wines
The wine world has been surprised by a remarkable achievement: Principal Grande Reserva 2009, one of Fladgate Still & Sparkling Wines’ top wines, has achieved a place in the Top 10 of a prestigious blind tasting organised by Italian magazine Spirito di Vino in Asia. This distinction places it alongside some of the world’s greatest red wine icons.
The blind tasting brought together reference wines from various wine regions around the world. Among them were renowned names such as Château Pétrus, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Poggio di Sotto and other representatives of the global wine elite. The Principal Grande Reserva 2009 stood out for its complexity, fresh, fruity aromas and dense tannins, qualities that have elevated it to this position of excellence.
Achieving a score of 98.1, Luca Gardini describes: ‘its aroma reveals a scent of cherry and a touch of citrus, the evolution in the glass points to aromatic herbs such as basil and sage, with final notes of chocolate. The palate is attractive with fine, long tannins and a very pleasant freshness on the finish.’
Principal Grande Reserva 2009 reflects Fladgate Still & Sparkling Wines’ commitment to quality and innovation. With 3 of the best grape varieties on the planet and exclusive gravity vinification, this emblematic red wine, produced at Quinta Colinas de São Lourenço in Bairrada, is capable of rivalling any world-class wine.
This recognition by Spirito di Vino magazine is more than an achievement for Principal 2009; it is also a celebration of the quality of Portuguese wines and their place on the world stage. Its inclusion on this list reinforces Portugal’s position as one of the most respected and admired wine destinations.
