quinta da Pedra
Quinta da Pedra is a historic and distinguished estate located in the heart of Monção and Melgaço, the most renowned sub-region of Vinho Verde in northern Portugal. Dating back to the 17th century, this estate holds significant historical value and is considered one of the oldest and most important in the Alto Minho region. The property spans approximately 30 hectares, with vineyards planted on deep, granitic soils. The land’s location within a valley allows for a unique combination of climatic conditions, benefiting from an abundant water supply and diverse solar exposure. The vineyards are cultivated using traditional dry-farming methods, maintaining an emphasis on sustainability and the natural qualities of the terroir. Quinta da Pedra’s Alvarinho vines are planted at a high density of 5555 vines per hectare—twice the regional average—which contributes to the quality and concentration of the wines.
The estate’s wines are renowned for their elegance and freshness, with a clear expression of the mineral-rich soils and balanced acidity. The Alvarinho produced here is particularly prized for its longevity, aging gracefully in the bottle to develop greater complexity over time. The estate is an excellent representation of the Vinho Verde DOC, producing wines that are vibrant, aromatic, and showcase the exceptional terroir of the region. Quinta da Pedra has established a reputation for excellence and continues to be a benchmark for Alvarinho production in Vinho Verde.
