quinta de bella
Quinta de Bella is a vast property spanning 50 hectares, with 23 hectares dedicated to vineyards. Located at an altitude of 380 metres, near the Dão River, the estate benefits from a unique terroir. The granitic soils and moderate climate of the Dão region are ideal for producing wines of exceptional quality.
The vineyard at Quinta de Bella was planted from scratch in 1999, using French high-density techniques. The whole estate is planted at 6,250 feet per hectare and is entirely dry-farmed. The quality of its wines comes from a special local daily temperature range that enhances the development of the colour and flavour of the wines, as well as helping to maintain acidity throughout the growing season. Its granite soils, known as ‘rotten granite’, contribute to more balanced grapes, as they have a greater capacity to retain and drain water, depending on the needs of the vineyard. The Pinot Noir variety at Quinta de Bella has been a huge surprise, as the resulting wines have an enormous ageing capacity, rivalling the best wines from Burgundy.
The Dão region is renowned for its ability to create wines that balance acidity, freshness, and complexity. Quinta de Bella embodies these characteristics, producing elegant, well-structured wines that also have excellent ageing potential.
